Introduced during the period of reconstruction after World War II, the Deutsche Mark became a symbol of the German economic miracle. It was the currency of the Federal Republic of Germany until 31st December 2001. Even before the Day of German Reunification on 3rd October, the Deutsche Mark also became the legal tender in East Germany on 1st July 1990.
This 1 D-Mark coin is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution.
The stand, through which the coin can be viewed from both sides, is modelled after a real segment of the Berlin Wall.
