Released for the Queen's Coronation in 1953 this was the first commemorative coin to be issued in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Many other coins would follow but as this was the first ever release, and was not issued into general circulation, it is one of the most coveted coins for collectors.
The obverse features the iconic portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Edgar Fuller. Her Majesty is shown riding her horse Winston in her Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadier Guards uniform, worn during the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
The reverse features a crown in the centre of a cross made up from a thistle, rose, leek and shamrock representing the 4 nations of the United Kingdom.
Engraved around the coin are the words ‘Faith and Truth I Bear Unto You' which form part of the coronation oath that was taken by the Queen in 1953.
Presented in uncirculated condition making it one of the finest examples of this coin to be found in the modern era.
