The Dambusters Squadron was formed in March 1943 during World War II. The squadron was specially created to carry out a daring bombing raid on the dams of the Ruhr Valley in Germany, using a new "bouncing bomb" designed by British engineer Barnes Wallis. The squadron's success in this mission earned them widespread recognition and praise.
The members of the Dambusters Squadron were comprised of pilots, navigators, and other crew members, who were handpicked for their skill and bravery. The squadron was led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his leadership during the mission.
In total, 133 men participated in the Dambusters raid, with 53 of them being killed in action. The bravery and skill of these men have been celebrated in numerous books, films, and other media over the years, cementing their place in history as some of the greatest heroes of World War II.
