Medusa One ancient silver Drachma from Thrace

The Medusa, one of the 3 Gorgons, was one of the most well-known Greek legendary figures. The once extremely beautiful woman was transformed into an ogress with snake hair, long tongue and fiery eyes by the goddess Athena. The sight of the Medusa turned every man to stone.

King Polydektes assigned Perseus, the Greek hero, with the practically impossible task of killing the Medusa and to bring him her head.

The antique coin of the Medusa was minted in the city of Apollonia Pontica in the region of Thrace. The obverse depicts the image of the legendary figure. The anchor, the symbol of the seaport is featured on the reverse. The over 2300-year-old coin is encapsulated and presented in a noble real wooden box with English certificate.
