The Official Emblem of Canada, The Beaver holds great importance in Canadian Culture and in the nation’s cultural heritage. A core realisation for French explorers arriving in Canada in the 16th century was that whilst the nation was not rich in precious metals and natural resources, it had great potential to build a prosperous fur industry. At the heart of this industry was the beaver, used to create hats, robes, and many other winter garments.
An animal adored by a nation, the Beaver was given royal assent in 1975 making it the country's national symbol, and thanks to the conservation efforts of the Canadian authorities during the 20th century, the Beaver survived an extinction scare in the late 19th century.
Honouring the love of this animal in Canadian Culture splendidly, The Royal Canadian Mint has released a stunning six-part collection, with this Beaver 1/2oz Pure Silver Coin the 5th in the series.
Pictured on the reverse of this edition is a depiction of a Beaver immersed in the waterways that vein the landscape of Canada.
The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II created by Susanna Blunt.
Also featured in this collection are designs centered on iconic themes including Polar Bear, Parliament Hill, Maple Branch with Five Leaves, Changing of The Guard, and The Great Outdoors.
