Description

This 50p was released in 2013 to mark the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Christopher Ironside, a prominent coin designer who was behind the designs for the first series of UK decimal coins in 1971.

The design itself is actually one of Ironside's own and was almost used for the first decimal 50p before the iconic Britannia was ultimately chosen. Now, the Royal Arms motif is given the release it deserves.
