The Normandy Landings saw some of the most bizarre tank designs ever to see action on the battlefield, from the amphibious “Donald Duck tank”, to the Sherman Crab which was fitted with a huge flail at the front to clear mines and tear through barbed wire.
These tanks, nicknamed Hobart’s “Funnies” after the man responsible for their creation, Percy Hobart, alongside their more traditional counterparts gave the Allies an edge which was used to great effect during and after the Landings.
Produced in remembrance of the incredible sacrifices made by so many during the landings, the 1,550 Tanks commemorative is part of the D-Day 75th Anniversary Collection and features an image of a Churchill tank with the combined flags of the Allied Forces below.
