First published in 1978 and immediately recognised as one of the best children's books of the year, The Snowman was a picture book without words by English author Raymond Briggs. Later adapted to a 26 minute film, the festive animated special has become prominant in British popular culture and its annual showing is eagerly awaited by millions.
To celebrate 40 years of The Snowman, Royal Mint have released the 40th Anniversary of The Snowman Brilliant Uncirculated 50p Coin.
The obverse features The snowman and the boy on thier magical flight, beneath them the pier and coastline. The reverse features a portrait of the queen.
