For 260 years, Wedgwood pottery has been an icon of British industry and innovation. Founded in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood, the company (and its founder) were responsible for a great number of revolutionary inventions in pottery.
Wedgwood’s innovations in techniques and materials revolutionised the industry and brought high-quality ornaments and tableware to the mass-market in a way that hadn’t been seen before.
Celebrating 260 years of Wedgwood pottery, this brand new £2 coin features a depiction of the Portland Vase, one of the creations that put the company, and its founder, Josiah Wedgwood, on the map.
