Local farmers stumbled upon a historical shipwreck of a Chinese Junk sailing ship on the banks of the Yangtze River during an exceptionally low water level. Onboard, they discovered almost 900-year-old coins from the time of Emperor Hui Tsung. These large 10 Cash coins from China, with their distinctive square holes, were cast in copper rather than minted. 'Cash' was the currency denomination used in China in imperial times, pre-dating the Yuan.
Another remarkable aspect is that the coins feature the personal calligraphy of the emperor who was famous for his penmanship. Hui Tsung served as the 8th emperor of the Song Dynasty from 1100 to 1126.
