Bronze Coin from the year the Titanic sank

Early in the morning of 15^th April 1912, the RMS Titanic sank in the icy North Atlantic. The luxurious passenger ship had hit an iceberg just a few hours before on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. Along with the ship, dreams of unsinkable ships and braving the elements through advanced technology also perished.

This UK 1 penny coin dates from the year of the disaster and is housed in a specially designed presentation case to commemorate the sinking of the Titanic and the tragic loss of many lives.

The obverse depicts a portrait of the George V, who changed the name of the royal house to Windsor in 1917. The reverse shows the British national symbol, the warrior Britannia, holding the trident of Triton as a symbol of British supremacy at sea.
